An auction to benefit the Benton Harbor Soup Kitchen is planned for this Friday.

Watermark Brewing Company co-founder Chris Mason tells us they’re hosting the event to help the kitchen out as it goes through a transitional period.

They’re changing locations for the first time in four decades, and they’ll move to a new location at the former Lark’s Barbecue, which is on Main Street,” Mason said.

Mason says as the Soup Kitchen moves, Watermark decided now would be a good time to give them a little extra help. So, the team reached out to businesses throughout Southwest Michigan to secure unique and fun items to be auctioned off.

We’ve had various businesses in the community reach out to us, like Black Arsenal and Sticky Spoons and all these other businesses that we’re going to be having a side competition, side auction for some amazing gift cards. Then we’re going to have about seven to ten larger prizes, such as the Big Boy, as you may have seen on Facebook.”

That’s the giant Big Boy statue that used to be outside the restaurant in Stevensville. Mason says the statue was passed between the St. Joseph and Lakeshore soccer teams for a few years as a trophy, but it eventually fell into Watermark’s hands. This is your chance to buy it.

Other items include tickets to a Cubs vs. Tigers game and a Four Winds experience seeing Wayne Newton.

Mason says Friday’s auction will be in-person only at the Solarium behind Watermark. It’ll run from 7 to 9 p.m. with auctioneer Jim Miller doing the honors. Everyone’s invited to come and help raise some money for the Benton Harbor Soup Kitchen.
