Karl-Anthony Towns scored 31 points, Jalen Brunson had 30 and the New York Knicks held on for a 118-116 win over the Detroit Pistons on Thursday night to take a 2-1 lead in the first-round series. OG Anunoby added 22 points for New York. Game 4 is on Sunday in Detroit. The Pistons have lost eight straight home playoff games since 2008, pulling within one of an NBA record set by Philadelphia from 1968 to 1971. When Detroit won at New York in Game 2, the franchise ended a league-record, 15-playoff game losing streak to take home-court advantage, but the Knicks snatched it back.

NBA – Karl-Anthony Towns and the Knicks bounce back to beat Pistons and take 2-1 lead
The New York Knicks left no doubt about their plan for Game 3 in the opening minutes against the Detroit Pistons. Karl-Anthony Towns took his team’s first shot, made his first of four 3-pointers and scored five points in the opening minutes to start an 11-point quarter. Towns scored 31 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked two shots to lead New York in a 118-116 victory over the Detroit Pistons to take a 2-1 lead in the first-round series on Thursday night.

Lenyn Sosa and Miguel Vargas homered as the Chicago White Sox beat the Minnesota Twins 3-0 in a game that was shortened to seven innings because of rain. The win snapped Chicago’s 14-game losing streak at Target Field, the longest road losing streak against any opponent in team history. Shane Smith (1-1) allowed one walk and four hits while striking out seven over five innings to pick up his first major league victory. Jordan Leasure and Brandon Eisert each pitched a scoreless inning in relief, with Eisert picking up his first career save.

NCAAMBB – USC basketball recruit Alijah Arenas injured in LA car crash
USC basketball recruit Alijah Arenas has been involved in a vehicle accident. The university’s men’s basketball coach called for prayers for Arenas and his family in a Thursday social media post. Arenas is a LA high school basketball star and the son of former NBA player Gilbert Arenas. The LAPD says officers responded shortly before 5 a.m. to a single-vehicle collision. Police said an 18-year-old was transported to the hospital in stable condition. Multiple news outlets including the Los Angeles Times and ESPN said Arenas was the driver, citing sources.

NFL – Cam Ward goes No. 1, Travis Hunter 2nd and Shedeur Sanders not picked in round 1
Cam Ward went from zero-star recruit to No. 1 pick in the NFL draft. Travis Hunter cost Jacksonville a premium. Jaxson Dart was selected before Shedeur Sanders. While Ward, Hunter and Abdul Carter went 1-2-3 as expected, Sanders wasn’t picked at all in the first round. Sanders was passed over by every team that had a need for a potential franchise quarterback, even though some draft analysts had him rated higher than Ward. The New York Giants had two chances to take Sanders and went with Penn State edge rusher Carter with the No. 3 pick, bolstering an already strong pass rush. The Giants then moved back into the first round and selected Dart, a quarterback from Ole Miss, at No. 25.

NFL – Chicago Bears take Michigan tight end Colston Loveland with No. 10
The Chicago Bears selected Michigan tight end Colston Loveland with the No. 10 overall pick in the NFL draft. Loveland set a school record for a tight end with 56 receptions for 582 yards and five touchdowns as a junior last season. He was second-team, All-Big Ten and a finalist for the John Mackey Award given to college football’s top tight end. He was first-team, all-conference in 2023 national championship season, when he caught 45 passes for 649 yards and four TDs. Loveland gives the Bears a potentially potent tight end tandem with Cole Kmet.

NFL – Colts boost supporting cast by adding Penn State TE Tyler Warren at No. 14
The Indianapolis Colts selected tight end Tyler Warren with the 14th pick in the NFL draft, filling a void they’ve had since Jack Doyle retired after the 2021 season. Indy ranked 17th in the league last season with 22.2 points and finished 25th in passing yards at 197.7 per game. But the most glaring offensive need heading into this offseason was the lack of a play-making tight end. If Warren becomes the dynamic, versatile player he was last season at Penn State, they will have more than a security-blanket type receiver over the middle.

NFL – Lions get Ohio State defensive tackle Tyleik Williams with 28th pick in NFL draft
The Detroit Lions have selected defensive tackle Tyleik Williams of Ohio State with the 28th pick in the NFL draft. The 6-foot-3, 334-pound Williams started 13 games for the 2024 national champions with 46 tackles, eight tackles for loss and 2 1/2 sacks. While the Lions return defensive tackles Alim McNeill and D.J. Reader, McNeill might not be available to start the season after suffering a torn ACL in December. Williams could fill that void. The Lions are coming off a 15-win season that ended abruptly when they went one and done in the playoffs.

NFL – Dolphins select Michigan defensive tackle Kenneth Grant with No. 13 pick
The Miami Dolphins addressed their defensive line on Thursday, selecting Michigan defensive tackle Kenneth Grant with the 13th pick in the NFL draft. Needing to find a replacement for veteran Calais Campbell, who in March opted to return to the Arizona Cardinals team that drafted him after playing one season in Miami, the Dolphins used their top pick to add an experienced and versatile nose tackle who was one of the standouts of Michigan’s national title-winning team two seasons ago. Grant, a third-team Associated Press All-American this past season, started 12 games with 32 tackles, 6 1/2 tackles for loss, three sacks and five pass breakups.

NFL – Cleveland Browns trade down, take Michigan DT Mason Graham with the 5th pick
After trading the second overall pick to Jacksonville, Cleveland Browns selected Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham No. 5 in the NFL draft on Thursday night. Graham was a first-team selection on the Associated Press All-America team. He had 45 tackles, 7.0 sacks and 3 1/2 tackles for loss last season. Graham was the defensive MVP of the Rose Bowl during Michigan’s national championship season in 2023. Browns general manager Andrew Berry opted to go for draft picks instead of taking Heisman Trophy winner and Colorado two-way superstar Travis Hunter, who the Jaguars moved up to take.
