Jean Alice Rickerman, born in Niles, Michigan on July 6, 1926, graced us with her humor, tenacity, and unwavering love for almost a century. A lifelong resident of Galien Township, Jean’s presence was a constant, comforting beacon in the community. Her wit was renowned, her laughter contagious, her spirit unbreakable. She was the homemaker who made a home not just for her family, but for all who crossed her threshold. A homemaker by title, but a home creator by nature, a rare gem of a person who could turn any space into a warm, inviting haven.
Jean’s love story with Harold William Rickerman is the stuff of fairy tales. Married on July 31, 1948, in Glendora, MI, their love story unfolded over 60 blissful years, until Harold’s passing in 2009. Each day with Jean was a testament to her love and dedication, a love that is carried on by her children Tom (Ann) Rickerman and Margo (Bob) DePue, her grandchildren Audrey (John) Whitten, Brent Depue and Todd DePue, and her great-grandchildren Ellis, Lydia, and Lance. Jean had a unique knack for celebrating the simple joys of life, like bowling, bird watching, and her beloved basketball games. Her love for sports was only surpassed by her love for animals.
Jean was a proud member of the Galien River Church, where she shared her faith and her radiant smile. Her parents, Benjamin and Dora Sheeley, who preceded her in death, would have been so proud of the woman she became. Jean Rickerman made us all feel loved, valued, and at home. Let’s celebrate her life, her love, and her unforgettable spirit.
Visitation will be held at Hoven Funeral Home, 414 East Front Street, Buchanan, Michigan, 49107, on Monday, April 28, 2025, at 3:00pm EDT, followed by the funeral service at 4:00pm EDT, with Pastor Bob Mensinger of New Troy Grace Brethren Church. A private burial will take place at Galien Township Cemetery. Memorials donations may be made to: Galien River Church.
