With a heart full of dedication and a spirit of adventure, Gerald Bernard Marsh, known fondly as Jerry, lived his life to the fullest. Born in Buchanan, MI, on May 23, 1929 and departing this life on April 12, 2025, Gerald’s life was one of service, love, and joy. His thoughtful and generous nature touched everyone he met.

Jerry was a proud patriot, first serving in the Merchant Marines sailing the Great Lakes, then as an Airborne Paratrooper during the Korean War. His dedication to service didn’t stop there, as he later became a beloved postal carrier, delivering more than just mail to the community of Buchanan, Michigan, but also delivering smiles, kindness, and warmth for 34 years. Jerry had a zest for life that was contagious. His adventurous spirit led him to love the great outdoors, whether he was hunting, fishing, camping, or simply tending to his garden. His love for sports was unmatched, knowing the players, their stats, and their stories. Jerry’s generosity was evident in his work with the Lions Club, the American Legion, and mentoring young athletes and boy scouts.

Gerald’s life was enriched by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife Lois Marsh, his children James (Amy) Marsh and JillAnn Marsh. The joy of his life extended to his siblings, Lawrence Jr., Doris Queen, Robert, Genevieve Lolmaugh, Kenneth, and Anita Adam. Gerald’s legacy continues to live on through his grandchildren Sara, Jonah, Daniel, Fredrick Whipkey, Katerina (Kameron) Brown, Lydia Cole, Mikah Cole, Edward Miller, and his great grandchildren Elisha, Margaret, and Jamie. He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Marie Marsh, and his brothers Richard and Jack Marsh.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025, from 5:00-8:00 PM EDT at Hoven Funeral Home, 414 East Front Street, Buchanan, Michigan. Funeral services will commence on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 10:30 AM EDT, at the same location. Interment with Military honors will take place following the service at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan, Michigan.
