Reverend Ronald M. Smith, age 88, passed away peacefully at home on April 17, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born on May 28, 1936, to Malcolm and Edith Smith, Ronald lived a life committed to his faith, family, and service to the Lord.
On June 16, 1956, Ronald married the love of his life, Janet Cline, in Port Huron, Michigan, who survives. Together they built a beautiful life and raised three children: Ronald “Mark” Smith, Brenda (David) Lingle, and Michael (Sheryl “Sherry”) Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Constance, brother, Gary and daughter, Brenda.
Ronald dedicated his life to his calling as a pastor, leading others to the Lord Jesus Christ and a deeper walk with Him. In addition to his ministry, he was a skilled carpenter who took pride in building and creating with his hands. His love for woodworking, helping others, tinkering with cars, and spending time on the golf course brought him great joy throughout his life.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Ronald is remembered by his grandchildren: Levi (Kelly) Smith, LaManda (Jason) Hilty, Nora (Wayne) Jerdon, Jason (Theresa) Lingle and Sean (Jennifer) Smith. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Phoenix, Devlin and Agustus “Gus” Smith, Chloe and Emma Hilty, Luna, LeStat and Clara Jerdon, David, Jonah and Noah Lingle.
He will be remembered for his hard work, kind heart, endless stories, sense of humor, and unwavering faith. Ronald’s legacy of love and service will live on through the many lives he touched.
A Funeral Service honoring the life of Ronald will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at 12:00pm with visitation to begin at 11:00am at Mission Hills Memorial Chapel in Niles, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Huntly Baptist Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home.
