Christine Berry-Cosey, a beacon of love, warmth, and selflessness, passed away peacefully of natural causes on April 15, 2025, in Niles, Michigan, at the age of 76.

Born on February 8, 1949, in Missouri, Christine was the beloved daughter of the late Porter and Earmer Lee (Lauderdale) Berry. Her early years were spent in Portageville, Missouri, before her family relocated to Niles, Michigan—a place she would come to call home and where she became a cherished member of the community.

Christine, affectionately known as Chris, possessed a remarkable work ethic and a spirit of kindness that touched countless lives. She dedicated many years to factory work and later found fulfillment working in food service and as a home health aide. Her care and compassion impacted thousands, providing comfort to those in need.

In 1983, Christine married the love of her life, Otis Cosey. Together, they owned and operated Cosey’s Restaurant on Lincolnway West in South Bend, Indiana, creating a welcoming space filled with good food and hospitality.

A woman of deep faith, Christine was an active member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully in the Hospitality Ministry. Her love for service also extended to Brown Funeral Home, where she offered her caring presence and support to grieving families.

Christine was a lifelong learner. After earning her high school diploma, she attended Patricia Stevens Modeling School and Talent Agency in Indiana and later earned certifications in healthcare and food service. Known for her exceptional culinary skills, she ensured no one ever left hungry and every birthday and special occasion was celebrated with love and care.

Her interests were as vibrant as her spirit. She loved traveling with family and friends, often lighting up a room with her joyful energy. Among her greatest joys was spending time with her great-grandson, Dontrel, and bringing her family together for holidays and special gatherings.

Christine’s life was marked by love and resilience. She endured great loss with grace, including the passing of her beloved husband Otis in 2011, her son Donald Berry in 2004, her daughter Tiffany Berry in 1970, her 3 brothers, James, John and C.L. Berry and sister, Earmer Carter. Through it all, her loving nature never wavered.

She is survived by her son, Dujwan Berry of Niles; her grandchildren, De’ja Berry of Niles, Dontonio Harris of Missouri, and Dawson and Armani Berry of South Bend; and her great-grandchildren, Dontrel, Jocelyn, and Dionte. Her legacy also lives on through her siblings, Georgia L. Brown, Vera M. Nicks, Lillie M. Maxwell, LLyod “Butch” Berry and Pearl (Andy) Theus; her goddaughters, Nakia Wakes and Kara West; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

Christine Berry-Cosey lived a life defined by generosity, joy, and unwavering love for others. Her memory will be treasured by all who knew her, and her influence will live on in the countless hearts she touched. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we hold close the sound of her laughter, the comfort of her kindness, and the warmth she brought into every room. Her journey on earth may have ended, but her story will continue to be told with love and pride for generations to come.
