Set for Saturday, April 26 is the annual Bids for Barks auction to benefit Berrien County Animal Services.
Katherine Francis with Friends of Berrien County Animal Services tells us Bids for Barks has been going strong for 17 years now, benefitting various animal-related causes. This year, it’s focused on the animals at the county shelter.
The Bids for Barks auction has about 180 items up for grabs.
“We have a hot tub, we have some special dinners, we have lots of baskets that businesses from around Berrien County have put together,” Francis said.
Francis says tickets to the actual in-person celebration this Saturday are all sold out. However, anyone can take part in the auction, which for the first time is all online.
In a given year, Bids for Barks might raise anywhere from $50,000 to $80,000, so she’s inviting everyone to check out the listings. Francis says the funds raised will be used for the shelter’s spay and neuter program, medical transport, and more.
“This allows us to never say no to medical care that the animals might need at the shelter.”
Every animal adopted out of Berrien County Animal Services is now spayed or neutered before leaving the facility.
Francis says those who attend the party at the Inn at Harbor Shores this Saturday will be treated to heavy Hors d’oeuvres, dessert, and drinks as the auction closes. For those that just want to look at the auction, you can find it right here and bids are now being taken.
Francis also notes anyone can just make a donation if they want to support the cause without having to bid. That can also be done online.
