In observance of National Drug Take Back Day, the Michigan State Police is urging residents to discard expired, unused, and unwanted prescription medications.
MSP fifth district Lt. DuWayne Robinson tells us this initiative is one of two annual events coordinated with the DEA and various police agencies.
“We’re supporting the DEA in their efforts to remove unused prescription drugs from the medicine cabinets of Michigan citizens in particular, just because of the danger that they pose to our young people and also to those that may be struggling with substance abuse,” Robinson says.
On Saturday, April 26, all MSP posts will be accepting pill drop-offs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with no questions asked. However, Robinson specifies that liquids, inhalers, patches, and syringes cannot be accepted.
“You can bring those drugs to the MSP post any time outside of this, drug take back day as well,” Robinson says. “It’s not just that day that we collect these drugs, but we collect all year round.
