Congressman Bill Huizenga is weighing a run for the U.S. Senate.
On Monday, the Republican from Holland who represents the Fourth District posted on X, saying he’s “encouraged by the outreach and calls” he’s received. He says after 25 years of no Republicans representing Michigan in the Senate, Michigan needs a conservative who will fight for President Trump’s agenda.
Huizenga writes, “With the filing deadline nearly a year away and Team Huizenga raising more than $925,000, I will continue to talk with voters and ask them who they believe is the best candidate for Republicans to nominate and elect to serve Michigan in the U.S. Senate.”
Huizenga was first elected to Congress in 2011 and serves on the House Financial Services Committee, among others.
The last Republican to represent Michigan in the U.S. Senate was Spencer Abraham, who served through 2001.
