Michigan Works of Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren has announced that the second round of 2025 grant applications for the Going PRO Talent Fund is now open.

Berrien County Business Solution Manager Michael Mompremier tells us Michigan Works has already assisted 43 businesses and given out $2.96 million in 2025.

“The biggest way that Going Pro assists employers is to help just offset the cost of upskilling their staff,” Mompremier says. “How Going Pro functions is that it’s a reimbursement program, so if a company knows they’re going to place X amount of dollars in getting our employees upskilled, it helps their employees get more efficient at what they do, which ultimately will trickle down and have an impact on the bottom line for the company.”

Going PRO grants provide funds to train both new and exciting employees, which can be used for classroom and onsite job training.

“Employees are very appreciative of the funding that they’re able to get and the ability to upscale existing staff or hire and retain potential new employees, as well as the additional benefit of supporting their apprentices,” Mompremier says. “There’s a lot of funding that goes to supporting employers that have apprentices at their establishment.”

The Going PRO Talent Fund grant applications are open now until May 2 at 5 p.m. Employers are encouraged to reach out to Michigan Works for more information.
