Multiple communities in Berrien County can expect paving work to begin early next week.
Berrien County Road Department’s Adri Boone tells us that contractors will be preparing for scratch and seal work, which is scheduled for this summer.
“What people might see as soon as next week is the preparation work,” Boone says. “So there’s some minor milling to the existing services and any of the approaches, so intersection approaches or driveway approaches within the roads that are being improved this year. That preparation will then allow starting the week of the 21st for those paving crews to come in.”
Once the road pavement has been milled, the contractor will arrange for paving operations. Boone mentions that while locations will not be completed all at once, commuters should anticipate single-lane closures during the work.
“It will be up to the contractor,” Boone says. “We don’t necessarily have that order yet, but we did want to just let people know expect seeing some actions or possible delays in travel in the near future.”
During the sealcoating process, drivers may encounter total lane closures and traffic restrictions. Additional information will be provided by the BCRD as they reach specific areas.
