Volunteers will take to Exit 23 of I-94 this Saturday for Lincoln Township’s spring clean up. At least, that’s the plan.
Lincoln Township Supervisor Glenn Youngstedt tells us Exit 23 may prove to be too muddy, and if it is, then they’ll clean up Exit 22 instead.
“We’re going to check it out on Friday just to make sure it’s dry enough to be traipsing around there,” Younbgstedt said. “I don’t know whether you’ve driven that recently, but there’s a big pond of water down there now, and we want to check that out because I don’t want anyone to get stuck in the pond.”
Youngstedt says volunteers are welcome to show up at the township hall to help out, whichever exit ends up being selected.
“Saturday, we’ll meet here at 8.30 for our mandatory MDOT safety briefing. We’ll distribute safety vests and bags and then we’ll hit the interstate.”
Volunteers should wear long pants, substantial shoes or boots, a long-sleeved shirt, a hat, and gloves.
At this week’s meeting of the Lincoln Township Board of Trustees, members said if the cleanup has to be moved to Exit 22, that might actually be a good thing because Exit 22 does have a lot of debris. Trustee Marc Florian said truckers will often park on the on ramp overnight, resulting in all kinds of interesting litter. Trustees wondered if there’s a No Parking sign on the ramp, something Township Manager Ralph Bansen said he would look into.
There will be additional exit cleanups in July and September.
