South Haven Center for the Arts is getting ready to welcome its elementary school art exhibition.

Executive Director Kerry Hagy tells us the work of elementary school students will be exhibited from April 5 through May 3 featuring grades kindergarten to 5th grade.

“We love them,” Hagy says. “Our members and our board just love these exhibitions and the community. I really feel like we get the opportunity to serve our community, to serve our families, and to just meet them and have them in this space. This is a great way for them to come and experience the Arts Center by seeing their own work on the walls.”

The exhibition will have an opening reception on April 11, from 5 to 7 p.m. Artists, family, friends, and the community are invited to celebrate, check out art, and take part in some hands-on activities, including an all-day Family Art Day on May 3 from 11 am to 4 p.m.

“There’s color and excitement everywhere, like every inch of the wall,” Hagy says. “It’s very joyful. There’s these amazing masks that are made from milk jugs from the Bloomingdale fifth graders. There is aluminum etching pieces that are from the third graders. There’s this one piece that’s a dog, they’re like running at you in the snow.”

The exhibition features students from South Haven’s Maple Grove and Lincoln Elementary, Northshore, St. Paul’s, Bangor, Covert, and Bloomingdale schools.

The exhibit will be open until May 3.
