While utility crews around the state work to restore electricity to the tens of thousands who lost it in Sunday storms, they’re also bracing themselves for new storms Wednesday.

Indiana Michigan Power’s Schnee Doyle tells us the company is always watching the forecast closely, and knows these new storms could be as bad or worse than Sunday’s. She’s advising everyone in advance to be ready for downed power lines and poles.

We know a lot of people are wanting to get out there and clean up the damage that’s in their yard, but we still want to encourage customers to stay away from any downed power lines or any downed utility lines that they may see,” Doyle said.

Doyle says you’ve also got to worry about trees.

We also want to encourage our customers to look up when they are outside fixing up their property as the ground is wet, saturated, so trees could fall or limbs could drop at any moment.”

Doyle says if you see a downed power line, call local police or I&M and stay as far away from it as you can. She reminds everyone they can sign up for I&M alerts regarding outages at the company’s website.

Everyone’s also advised to make sure their devices are all charged and to have an emergency kit ahead of severe weather.
