Attention all Michigan parents.
Starting Wednesday, kids must be in a rear-facing car seat until they are two or reach the maximum weight and height allowed by the seat. From two to five — the child can move into a forward-facing seat.
Trauma Injury Prevention Nurse Anita Barksdale from Trinity Health says it’s most important to read the manufacture’s label.
“We want to encourage parents always look at the height and weight requirements on their seat,” Barksdale said. “It’s on a sticker, really easy to read, and they should continue to follow those. But for Michigan, if they can remember 2, 5, and 4 foot 9, that should make it a lot easier.”
If you’re unsure, you can get help from your local police or sheriff’s department.
