Arminia “Mary” Chappell, 94, of Berrien Springs, passed away on Monday morning, March 31, 2025, at Corewell Health Rehabilitation & Nursing Center – Pine Ridge in Stevensville, MI.
Mary was born on February 18, 1931, in Chicago, IL, one of six children to the late Antionio and Carmela (Malito) Garritano. Moving to Dowagiac soon after her birth, Mary was raised in Dowagiac and was a graduate of Dowagiac Union High School. On October 8, 1955, she was united in marriage to Dick P. Chappell.
Surviving are her son – Rich Chappell; two granddaughters –Brooke Chappell, and Hollie (David III) Ironside; brother – Arnold Garritano; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband of 56 years – Dick Chappell; infant son – Mark Chappell; three brothers – Joseph Garritano, Albert Garritano, and Victor Garritano; and sister – Esther Pilot.
Honoring Mary’s wishes, cremation has taken place and her family will celebrate her life privately.
