How are your allergies doing this spring?

Allergy season is kicking off. The director of Allergy and Immunology at Detroit Medical Center Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital, Dr. Pullin Patel, says it does seem like allergies are getting worse.

At this point in our lives with the environmental changes, we tend to have worse and worse allergy seasons,” Patel said. “We seem to have longer, prolonged summer months, and that has been producing more and more pollen, more and more symptoms in patients. And patients are having, unfortunately, worse and worse symptoms.”

Patel says those symptoms are worse in the spring and fall compared to what we used to see decades ago. He says pollens are the culprit.

Patel says you can use over the counter medications or see an allergist and you could get allergy shots.
