With heavy hearts we share the passing of Matthew “Matt” Scott McKelvey, 57, of Stevensville, MI. He passed away following complications of Pulmonary Fibrosis on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Butterworth hospital in Grand Rapids. Matt was born on February 19, 1968 in Muncie, IN to Tim McKelvey and the late Linda (Jones) McKelvey.

A devoted husband, loving stepfather, cherished son, brother, uncle and friend.
Matt’s presence brought warmth and laughter to those who knew him.

Matt graduated in 1986 from Monroe Central High School in Parker City, Indiana, followed by proudly serving in the US Navy on the USS Asheville from 1988-1999. He began his career with AEP working at the Cook Plant in 1999. He would go on to earn a BASc in Nuclear Power Technology/Technician as well as a Masters Certificate in Organizational Leadership from the University of Notre Dame. In 2022 Matt was able to retire at the age of 54 to enjoy traveling with his wife. After retiring, he contracted for Crane Nuclear with his great friend Riley Mayhew.

Matt always had a smile on his face and never met a stranger. He loved to golf with his close friends of the “6 Pak Open”. He was an avid fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Indianapolis Colts, as well as the Cincinnati Reds. Matt loved to visit their winter home in Florida and take long walks on Siesta Key beach. You could often find him listening to live music at a local TiKi bar while enjoying a cold beer. His other life pleasures included riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle as well as maintaining a beautiful garden.

Matt is survived by the love of his life, Jeanne (Mock) McKelvey, whom he married on April 4, 2004; step-daughter Kelly (Patrick) Grayam; father Tim McKelvey; sisters Abby (Carl) Pettigrew; Mandi (Donnie) Lucas. Many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. Preceded in death by his mother Linda (Jones) McKelvey and mother-in-law Maxine Mock.

Gone from our sight but never from our hearts.
