
The Cass County Sheriff’s office has made an arrest in the case of a January break-in at a Cassopolis hardware store where firearms and ammunition were stolen.
The Cass County Sheriff’s office reports on Monday at approximately 3 pm, the Cass County Drug Enforcement Team, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, and the Cassopolis Police Department conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle in a parking lot on School Street in the Village of Cassopolis.
Detectives received information that the subjects in the vehicle were in possession of stolen firearms. Charged in the case were 18-year old Jacob M. Morrison of Cassopolis and a 17-year-old male, whose name is being withheld by law enforcement.
The two were initially detained and questioned when several stolen firearms and ammunition allegedly from a break-in at Hayden’s Hardware Store in Cassopolis were recovered at the scene.
Morrison was later arrested and charged with possession of stolen firearms. The 17-year-old male was charged with breaking and entering and possession of stolen firearms and released to a parent.
The case is still under investigation. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to share any information they might have about the case by calling the Tip Line at 1-800-462-9328.
