A Livonia, Michigan man is dead following a crash involving two semi trucks on I-94 near New Buffalo on Monday.
The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department says it happened on the westbound side of the highway around 4:30 p.m.
Arriving deputies found an eastbound semi truck and trailer had crashed through the cable barriers in the median and crossed into the westbound lanes. It then crashed into a westbound semi truck and trailer with such force that the driver of the eastbound truck was ejected along with the driver’s seat.
The driver was found next to the damaged truck and unresponsive suffering from major trauma to the head. Lifesaving efforts were not successful and the driver, Jeffrey Oneal of Livonia, was pronounced dead.
The driver of the westbound semi — Pawel Dobrowolski of Lake Zurich, Illinois — was uninjured.
Police say a witness to the crash reported that she noticed the driver of the eastbound truck, Oneal, experiencing some type of distress and having trouble maintaining his lane before abruptly veering over toward the other side of the highway.
