Pistons 122, Pelicans 81 – Cunningham, Pistons top New Orleans 127-81
Cade Cunningham had 24 points and eight assists, and the Detroit Pistons routed the New Orleans Pelicans 127-81. Simone Fontecchio scored 23 points for Detroit, which had dropped four of six. Zion Williamson had 30 points for New Orleans, and Yves Missi finished with 12 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks. Williamson also grabbed six rebounds and blocked two shots. The Pelicans lost for the seventh time in eight games. After the game, New Orleans said Trey Murphy III will miss the rest of the season after being diagnosed with a torn labrum and partial tear of the rotator cuff in his right shoulder.  The Pistons visit the Miami Heat on Wednesday night.

Pacers 132, T-Wolves 130 – OT – Toppin’s 34 points and late 3 in OT lead depleted Pacers to 132-130 win
Obi Toppin’s fourth 3-pointer of overtime came with 3.5 seconds left to lift the short-handed Indiana Pacers over Minnesota 132-130 and end the Timberwolves’ eight-game winning streak. Toppin had a season-high 34 points to help the Pacers win without their top six scorers down the stretch. Four starters were out. Andrew Nembhard was ejected in the third quarter, and Bennedict Mathurin fouled out in the fourth. The Timberwolves led by five with a minute left in overtime until Thomas Bryant hit a 3. Anthony Edwards missed from deep, Toppin hit his clutch shot and Julius Randle’s fadeaway fell short at the buzzer.

Bulls 111, Jazz 97 – Coby White’s 26 points leads balanced scoring effort as Bulls beat Jazz 111-97
Coby White scored 26 points and the Chicago Bulls beat Utah 111-97 on Monday night, sending the Jazz to their 10th straight loss.  White, who shot 9 of 19 from the field and 2 for 10 from long distance, was helped by 6-for-7 shooting from the line. Tre Jones added 18 points, 12 assists and three steals as the Bulls won for the fifth time in six games. Kevin Huerter and Matas Buzelis each scored 17. Dalen Terry chipped in with 11 points as six Bulls scored in double figures. Keyonte George and Lauri Markkanen each scored 16 points for Utah, which last won on Feb. 28.

NBA – Heat-Knicks game delayed after Tracy Morgan gets sick at Madison Square Garden
Actor and comedian Tracy Morgan got sick in the second half of the Heat-Knicks game, interrupting the action at Madison Square Garden. There was a pause in play with 6:09 left in the third quarter while workers cleaned up the area around Morgan’s seat. The delay lasted for more than 10 minutes. A spokesperson for Madison Square Garden said they hope Morgan feels better soon, and they were looking forward to seeing him back in his courtside seat. Messages were left by the AP seeking comment from Morgan’s representatives.

NCAAMBB – March Madness puts Izzo-led Michigan State in conversation with bluebloods
Michigan State has joined rare air in college basketball over the last half-century with coaching longevity and championships. Since 1976, the Spartans have had just two coaches. Hall of Famer Tom Izzo cut down the nets in 2000 and Jud Heathcote won it all in 1979. Kentucky, North Carolina and Michigan State are the three programs to have two basketball coaches in a span of at least four decades with each winning a national championship that was not vacated due to violating NCAA rules. The second-seeded Spartans will open the NCAA Tournament against 15th-seeded Bryant on Friday night in Cleveland.

NCAAWBB – Strong TV ratings and attendance, women’s basketball in good place
There was concern that attendance and overall interest in women’s college basketball would drop this year with the departure of Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese and other stars for the WNBA. Both took a dip — but only a dip. With JuJu Watkins and Paige Bueckers among those leading the way, attendance across the country was just short of last season’s record numbers. More networks showed more games on TV this season and ratings were strong heading into March Madness.

PWHL – Detroit boosts its bid for PWHL expansion team, drawing record crowd for game
Young women held up signs with messages for the Professional Women’s Hockey League, calling on it to expand to Detroit. The six-team PWHL may expand next season and is touring cities potentially on the list to get in the game. Detroit tried to improve its chances of landing a team, drawing 14,288 fans Sunday night to break the attendance record for a professional women’s hockey game in the United States as New York beat Minnesota 4-1 at Little Caesars Arena. As impressive as the turnout has been in Detroit for a pair of PWHL games, it has competition.

MLB – AL Central Preview: Four solid teams, and then the White Sox
The American League Central was a surprisingly strong division last season, with four teams finishing above .500. Then there was the Chicago White Sox — who racked up 121 losses for the most defeats in modern Major League Baseball history. Expect more of the same in 2025. The defending champion Cleveland Guardians, along with the Detroit Tigers, Minnesota Twins and Kansas City Royals all have reason to believe they’ll emerge at the top of the division. As for the White Sox, there’s pretty much nowhere to go but up, though it still looks like another tough season for Chicago’s South Side.

MLB – NL Central Preview: Brewers looking to hold off Cubs and Reds at top of division
Christian Yelich and Milwaukee won the NL Central each of the past two seasons. But a three-peat is looking like quite the challenge. While the Brewers had a quiet winter in the wake of their third division title in four years, the Chicago Cubs revamped their roster and the Cincinnati Reds bolstered their rotation and bullpen. The Pittsburgh Pirates also should benefit from a full year of Paul Skenes. Milwaukee lost shortstop Willy Adames in free agency, and it traded closer Devin Williams to the New York Yankees. But outfielder Jackson Chourio is back, and the Brewers have some experience with defying expectations.

NFL – Developers reveal proposal for new Chicago Bears stadium on city’s South Side
The developers of a tract of land on Chicago’s South Side have launched a Hail Mary they hope keeps the Bears in the city, revealing renderings for an enclosed stadium and mixed-use development on the site of the old Michael Reese Hospital. The plan released Friday by Chicago’s Farpoint Development calls for both a $3.2 billion, 75,000-seat stadium to house the founding NFL franchise as well as $356 million in parking and infrastructure to be financed privately. It also includes a park bridge to be built over Lake Shore Drive and 5 million square feet of “neighboring development opportunities.” Farpoint said $600 million in public funding would be needed.

NFL – Bears WR Olamide Zaccheaus looks forward to catching passes from Caleb Williams
New Chicago Bears wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus sees star potential in quarterback Caleb Williams and hopes to develop the sort of connection he had with Jayden Daniels in Washington last season. He says Williams “has all the talent that you need to be a top-tier quarterback in the league.” The 27-year-old Zaccheaus finalized a one-year deal on Monday. He figures to be mainly the slot receiver in Chicago playing with DJ Moore and Rome Odunze. Zaccheaus is coming off a bounce-back season with Washington. He caught a career-high 45 passes for 506 yards and three touchdowns.
