Republicans push road funding plan

Michigan Republicans say they’ve got a plan to raise more than $3 billion for roads.

State Representative Pat Outman says money can be raised to fix roads without raising taxes.

Michigan families are already struggling with rising costs, yet some continue to push tax hikes as the only solution, and that’s simply not true,” Outman said. “The money is already there, we just need to start prioritizing it better. Instead of spending billions into corporate handouts and import projects, we should start prioritizing the needs of the people of Michigan better and safer roads.”

Outman says the plan would generate $945 million by directing every cent of state taxes at the gas pump into infrastructure.

The bills would replace the sales tax on gas with a revenue-neutral change in the motor fuel tax.
