With the weather warming up around Southwest Michigan, golf courses are starting to hear from some of their regulars.
Jackson Davison is the PGA head golf professional at Harbor Shores and tells us although the course isn’t quite ready to welcome golfers just yet, he’s feeling the excitement in the air.
“Obviously, here in Michigan, the good weather gets people buzzing about golf and our phones been ringing and we’re excited to open up here pretty soon,” Davison said. “It’s definitely looking like it’s going to be another good year and we’re getting a lot of people excited and booking tee time, so I can understand their eagerness.”
Davison says the grounds crew is hard at work doing what it can before the ground thaws and then dries out. They’re planning to open for the season April 11.
“So our golf course superintendent, Matt Vollrath, and his team have been pretty much working nonstop throughout the winter and just making the golf course a little bit better every day, cleaning things up, getting rid of some debris that’s kind of gotten on the golf course throughout the winter.”
Meanwhile, Dustin Lester with Pipestone Creek Golf Course in Eau Claire tells us the parking lot has been half full due to people just walking the course, which they allow all year. He says the pro shop remains closed, but the course is signing people up for leagues already. While he says there’s been a few golfers out there, he recommends waiting until the conditions are better.
Pipestone Creek plans to officially open for the season on April 1.
