A suspect is in the Berrien County Jail and facing multiple charges after a crash at the Cook nuclear power plant in Bridgman this week.
The Baroda Lake Township Police Department tells us it happened around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday when the suspect drove through the main entrance at the plant. Police aren’t saying what the driver’s motivation was, other than to tell us he rammed the gate and is facing “numerous charges.”
The Cook plant has released a statement, saying, “An individual not affiliated with Cook Nuclear Plant in any way traveled down our access road and drove into one of our security barriers.” The statement continues, “The situation was handled by local law enforcement and Cook Nuclear Plant security personnel. Plant security was not compromised at any time, and there was no impact to customer electric service.”
Police tell us there is no threat to the public or the plant. We’ve reached out to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department to learn more information.
