Paul Charles Merrill departed this life peacefully on February 28, 2025, at the age of 77, in South Bend, Indiana.
Paul was born on February 9, 1948, to Paul Charles Merrill, Sr. and Carmelita (Sallows), who preceded him in death, along with his sister Jeanie Merrill. He is survived by his siblings Linda Aldendifer and Ger-ald Merrill; his children, including Timothy (Ashley) Merrill, Desirea (Dan) Phelps, and Melissa Merrill; and his stepson Nick (Erika) Tapia. Being a grandfather to Skye, Tanner, Autumn and Danni Lynn filled his heart with immense pride and joy. His longtime sweetheart, Rosetta Tapia, stood by him through many of life’s chapters, sharing in his passions and supporting his endeavors.
Paul had once said that “(Motorcycle) racing has been one of the most influential aspects of my life”, adding that it was thrilling, addicting, and blissful. He was a short track national champion in his early twenties.
Paul served proudly in the Army during the Vietnam War, and faith was the cornerstone of his life, providing strength in times of adversity and gratitude in moments of joy. He was a devoted supporter of Notre Dame football and basketball and found deep contentment in life’s simpler pleasures—wandering the woods in search of morel mushrooms, casting a line into quiet waters, and embracing the adventure of travel.

Services to celebrate Paul will take place on March 15, 2025. 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home with a time of visitation one hour prior.
