The new playground equipment for Silver Beach County Park in St. Joseph has been delivered and is waiting to be installed.
Berrien County Parks Director Jill Adams tells us the equipment from Sinclair Recreation arrived on President’s Day. The delivery included two semis, seven slides, eight swings, 1,417 bolts, blue stairs, and railings. She says work will start with the pouring of footings and sidewalks, and the crews will begin installation of the equipment itself as soon as weather allows.
“Assembling the equipment won’t happen for a little while longer, but we do encourage people if they’re down at the beach to take a look, watch the progress,” Adams said.
So, how’s it feel to have the new stuff on site?
“It was a really good feeling when it was delivered. I was down there, we took selfies with it. We were so excited to finally have the real live actual equipment on site. It started to feel very real after that point.”
Adams asks everyone to stay out of the work zone, which is fenced off.
The Silver Beach Playground project included a public fundraising campaign to collect the $1.25 million needed to replace the previous 30-year-old equipment. It was later given to the village of Eau Claire.
Adams says the goal is to have the new playground open to the public by Memorial Day.
