There’s a push by some Michigan Republicans to urge the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn the ruling that protects same-sex marriage.
Republican Representative Josh Schriver and six co-sponsors are introducing a resolution to reverse the case which nearly ten years ago required all states to recognize same-sex marriages. Schriver’s Democratic colleagues are speaking out.
State Representative Jason Morgan of Ann Arbor, who is gay, commented.
“Listen, this is hard to understand for some people, but when you grow up as a gay kid, it hits different,” Morgan said. “When you grow up having to hide who you are because you don’t know if your family will still love you, it hits different. When you grow up believing that you will never be able to love someone because it’s not normal, it hits different.”
Republican House Speaker Matt Hall told reporters Tuesday his caucus does not agree with Schriver, and the resolution will not move forward.
