Explore the stunning artwork created by middle and high school students from Van Buren County, featuring their impressive creativity and talent this weekend.

Starting Feb. 28 from 5 to 7 p.m., students’ artwork will be exhibited at the South Haven Center for the Arts during the Voices Made Visual exhibition.

Executive Director of the Center for the Arts Kerry Hagy tells us this exhibition is all about expressing young artists through their pieces.

“It’s very moving and inspiring to see the work of young artists and what they do and there’s often very beautiful pieces in it,” Hagy says. “We just feel really honored to be able to work with our students and our wonderful art teachers we have in this area through this exhibition. It’s really an honor for us.”

From March 1 to March 29, people can stop by and check out the artwork. The center will also have drop-in activities for families during the exhibition, provided by Sarah Rydecki, a former art teacher at South Haven schools.

“For every exhibition, she prepares a station where visitors can come and make artwork based on what they see,” Hagy says. So families can come, they can look around at the exhibition, find their student artwork, or even if they don’t have student artwork in the show but they want to come look at the exhibition, then they can sit down and make artwork of their own to take look at the exhibition, then they can sit down and make artwork of their own to take home.”

The high school artists represent South Haven, Covert, and Bangor High Schools, as well as the Van Buren Tech Center. Meanwhile, middle school contributions come from Saint Basil School, Baseline, Bangor, and Covert Middle Schools.

The South Haven Center for the Arts is free and open to the public, open Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from  11 am to 4 p.m., and Thursday from 11 am to 6 p.m.
