Injuries reported after Dial A Ride bus crash with pickup

The Benton Township Police Department is investigating a crash between a Dial a Ride bus and a pickup truck on Thursday.

The crash happened around 2 p.m. at the intersection of M-139 and Pipestone Avenue.

The Benton Township Fire Department tells us it used the Jaws of Life to free one passenger from the pickup, while multiple Medic 1 ambulance crews helped passengers from the bus.

The crash comes just months after a crisis at Dial a Ride when it was dropped by its insurance carrier due to a high number of claims. The Twin Cities Area Transportation Authority Board in November approved a new policy for the bus service, but it came at about three times the price, going up from $70,000 per year to $285,000. The deductible also went up significantly.

Police haven’t yet released who was at fault in Thursday’s crash. We’re waiting for more information from Benton Township police.
