A mother has been arrested for abandoning her children for years. Now the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department is rallying together to help her kids.
Police believe the 34-year-old woman abandoned her children between 2020 and 2021 at a Pontiac home. They haven’t been to school or gone outside since then. They’re now ages 12, 13, and 15.
Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard revealed more about the conditions the kids were living in.
“Some places the trash was as high as three and four feet, covered with feces, you know, kids sleeping on pizza boxes,” Bouchard said. “It looked like the bathtub and the toilet were non-functional from the amount of garbage and feces, let alone a scene where three kids had been living without parental or even any kind of adult help, support, love for years.”
The children were discovered last Friday when the owner of the property called police.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Department is taking donations for the kids, who they say didn’t even know how to operate a toilet. The Oakland County Prosecutor’s office is now reviewing charges for the mother.
