It’s been a deadly winter for Michigan snowmobilers.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says the 2024-25 riding season has already seen ten snowmobiling deaths in Michigan, four of them coming in Ontonagon County in the western U.P.

The DNR is spreading the word about some safety tips. Always wear a helmet, keep your headlights on, and keep a safe distance from the rider in front of you. Use extreme caution in whiteout conditions, and never snowmobile under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
