Southwestern Michigan College will figure out what to do about appointing a new president in the fall.
The SMC Board of Trustees met on Wednesday and settled on the plan as they seek to replace the outgoing Dr. Joe Odenwald. Odenwald has announced he’s leaving the college to take on the job of president of Alma College come June. The SMC board later appointed Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer Brent Brewer as interim president, effective May 11.
Vice Chair Tracy Hertsel Wednesday put forth the motion that the board of trustees will discuss and determine next steps for filling the president’s position on a permanent basis in October. The motion passed unanimously. She said, “The board is sensitive to the many major activities the administration has on its agenda and charges them to complete them by summer’s end.”
