
Kathleen Koehler, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on December 7, 1946, in Niles, Michigan, Kathleen was full of love and dedication, touching the lives of all who knew her.
Kathleen was the beloved daughter of the late Robert B. and Arvis J. (Wilken) Gleason. She was the devoted wife of Clarence Joseph Koehler, with whom she shared a beautiful marriage that began on October 12, 1985, in Michigan City and was filled with travel adventures. Their partnership was a testament to enduring love and mutual respect. Kathleen was predeceased by her husband, Clarence, her son Rob Mrozek her parents, as well as her siblings, Robert Gleason and Patricia Cook.
She is survived by her children, Trisha Mrozek of Buchanan, and Mathew (Stefanie) Koehler of Middleburg, Florida. Kathleen was a proud grandmother to six grandchildren; Bridget, Declan, Casey, Rebecca, Abbigayle, and Payton and great-grandchildren; Aiden, Rohan, Isabella, Robert, Michael, and Colton who will carry her legacy of kindness and compassion forward. She is also survived by her brother, William (Cindi) Gleason of Illinois, who will remember her for her warmth and unwavering support.
Kathleen’s commitment to her family was matched by her dedication to her career. She served as a Registered Nurse for 42 years, providing care and comfort to countless individuals. Her passion for public health led her to work closely with the CDC on Tuberculosis Control, and she held esteemed positions on the Indiana Board of Public Health and the Board of National Public Health. Her contributions to the field were significant and will be remembered by her colleagues and those she served, and was even recognized with the St. Camillus Award for her exceptional dedication and service as a nurse.
Education was a cornerstone of Kathleen’s life, and she earned a Master’s Degree that furthered her ability to impact the health and well-being of her community. Her intelligence and drive were evident to all who had the privilege of working alongside her.
A celebration of Kathleen’s life will take place February 18, 2025 from 5-6 p.m. with a service following at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 521 East Main Street, Niles, Michigan.
