A murder suspect out of Allegan County is being held in the Berrien County Jail after being arrested here in September.
The Allegan County Sheriff’s Department says 23-year-old Craig Michael Mills is charged with open murder in the death of Mable Mills, his mother, discovered on September 19. The department says Craig Mills was arrested in Berrien County on September 17 after getting into a traffic crash with his mother’s car and then resisting arrest.
Berrien County Sheriff Chuck Heit tells us Mills was driving without a license when he was brought into custody. He’s been held at the Berrien County Jail since September while police in Allegan County investigated the death of his mother. The murder charge in Allegan County was just announced on Monday.
Heit says he’s not sure when Mills would be transported back to Allegan. For now, Mills remains in Berrien County.
