Michigan U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin has made her first address on the Senate floor since being sworn into office last month.
Slotkin spent a good portion of her address advocating for both political parties to work across the aisle.
“Wherever I can, I’m going to be looking for places that I can work together, and on things like veterans issues or broadband internet, agriculture,” Slotkin said. “But I think every day, my challenge is going to be to figure out what are the things I have to compromise on, and what are the things I should never compromise on.”
Slotkin acknowledged voters sent the message they wanted change in the federal government based off last year’s election results. However, she says those changes should only come in the confines of the law and Constitution, and not by allowing unvetted billionaires like Elon Musk to have access to the data of private citizens.
