South Haven city council extends STR moratorium

Discussions revolving around short-term rentals continue in South Haven, but this time to extend the moratorium.

During Monday’s city council meeting, the city council approved a resolution that imposes an additional six-month moratorium on the registration and commencement of new short-term rental business units.

City manager Kate Hosier explained the reasoning behind the additional six months, which would also cancel the 2025 lottery.

“This would be our third extension, but we also know that this board has created an STR work group that is promising to give an ordinance for this council’s review of the second meeting in February,” Hosier says. “I feel like we are really diligently moving towards that date, but it does put us past our February date here for the second moratorium extension.”

Last month, the city council approved a workshop group that would produce a draft ordinance for the council’s review by mid-February. Hosier says that is still on track to happen, but this resolution would help explain it to citizens in the meantime.
