Automakers would be among the companies most affected by tariffs

No industry is impacted by the President Trump’s threatened tariffs on Canada and Mexico like the auto industry, and its not even close.

GM builds pickups in both Canada and Mexico, while Ford’s hot Maverick pickups are made in Mexico. Then there are the Chrysler minivans and Dodge Chargers that are built in Windsor. All would be subject to tariffs, as would be Canadian and Mexican parts that go into vehicles made in the U.S.

Glen Stevens of the group, Mich Auto, says carmakers have been bracing for this.

This one is something that while no one wanted it, you have to be prepared for it,” Stevens said. “So everyone will take actions, but as you know, it takes thousands of components to put together a vehicle.”

Stevens says Michigan would be among the states most impacted by tariffs on Canada and Mexico if they end up happening.
