The Berrien County Road Department has scheduled a public meeting for next month on a project planned for Red Arrow Highway in Chikaming Township this year.

Department communications coordinator Adri Boone tells us they’ll be working on the road between Berrien Street and Lakeshore Road starting in the spring.

“It actually started in the fall,” Boone said. “Red Arrow Highway there between Bering Street and Lakeshore Road, we did some joint repairs. That project is going to resume here in the spring.”

Boone says the work resuming around March will include the resurfacing of the road, culvert replacements, the construction of a roadside trail, and a lane reconfiguration.

There will be less lanes. It is going to be a little bit different than some of the other segments that we’ve done. So it would be a great opportunity if anyone wants to see what that’s going to look like or to discuss those locations a little bit further to join us at that public meeting.”

Boone says everyone’s welcome to the February 20 meeting to learn more. It will be held at the Chikaming Township Hall from 6 to 7 p.m. One thing that will be discussed will be necessary road closures when some of the culverts are replaced.
