Donna Sue Avery, born on Jan. 12, 1939, in St. Joseph passed away on Jan. 22, 2025, in Bridgman.
A celebration of Donna’s life will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 27, at Lakeside Family Church, 6999 Red Arrow Highway, Stevensville, MI 49127. Online condolences accepted at www.PikeFH.com
Known affectionately as a Silver Beach sand rabbit during her youth, Donna graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1957. She began her career as a secretary at SJM Bank, where she later became a mortgage processor, showcasing her dedication and work ethic.
In 1962, she married her beloved husband, Vernon Avery, whom she met through a friend at a local diner in Benton Harbor. Their 62 years of marriage were blessed with three sons: Keith (Amy), John (Susan) and Matt. Donna took immense joy in being a grandmother to 10 grandchildren and a great-grandmother to 17 great-grandchildren, creating a legacy of love that will endure.
Donna is remembered for her gentle spirit, kindness and devotion to her family. A pivotal moment in her life occurred at the age of 12, when she attended a youth event at a small Baptist church in St. Joseph, where she embraced the message of the gospel. This transformative experience led her to a lifelong faith in Jesus Christ, a belief that comforted her throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her son, Keith, who shared her faith in Christ. Donna’s wish for those who read this is to consider Jesus and find forgiveness and life in Him. As she now enjoys the presence of Christ, her family and friends take solace in the promise of Psalm 16:11, which speaks of the joy found in His presence. Donna’s life was a testimony of love, faith, and hope, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Arrangements are entrusted to Pike Funeral and Cremation Services, The Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy., Bridgman.
