The Berrien County Board of Commissioners has made several appointments to boards and committees, but also passed on one reappointment.
At a meeting Thursday, the board considered whether to reappoint Benton Harbor City Manager Alex Little to the Berrien County Planning Commission. Some commissioners objected, saying Little has missed several meetings of the commission.
Commissioner Rayonte Bell said removing Little from the commission isn’t a reflection of what he had to offer the body.
“There’s a lot that a person like Mr. Little, having the institutional knowledge and experience in governmental roles, can actually play and contribute to our county Planning Commission,” Bell said. “That is why I did suggest that if there is someone that Mr. Little can recommend to apply for this opening.”
Commission Chair Mac Elliott said Little has a lot of experience in government and brings valuable institutional knowledge to the planning commission, but if he can’t make it to most of the meetings, that’s a problem.
Commissioners moved forward three other Berrien County Planning Commission appointments, removing Little from the list. Elliott said perhaps the matter can be revisited later in the year.
