NRC, Holtec International to discuss next steps in Palisades restart

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Holtec International are gearing up for a meeting next week to discuss the NRC’s plans to submit license amendment requests as part of the process to restart the Palisades Nuclear Plant.

NRC’s Viktoria Mitlyng tells us that one of the topics on the agenda will be the issues related to the steam generators at Palisades.

“You know, both of them are very technical,” Mitlyng says. “The one that is of particular interest is a license amendment that has to do with sleeving the new generators.”

Additionally, the NRC plans to address another license amendment request concerning the primary coolant system’s leak-before-break policy. They will also provide insights into the reasoning behind the proposed changes and what they have observed during preliminary inspections.

This virtual meeting is scheduled for January 14 at 1 p.m.
