An officer with the Bangor Police Department has been placed on administrative leave while the Van Buren County Prosecutor’s office investigates the handling of a report regarding the possible solicitation of a minor.
The department put out a statement this week saying it’s aware of a video depicting the incident and is in contact with the prosecutor. An internal investigation is underway.
Additionally, Bangor Police Chief Justin Weber says a volunteer reserve auxiliary officer is no longer a member of the Bangor Police Department Reserve Officer Program. Weber says the incident is being fully investigated, and no additional information can be released at this time.
The incident in question relates to how the officer responded to a call from a group reporting the solicitation. The officer is not accused of solicitation.
