The Berrien County Board of Commissioners is not making many changes to its officers for 2025.

The board on Thursday held its annual organizational meeting, once again selecting Mac Elliott to serve as the chair and Teri Freehling to serve as vice chair. It also discussed the schedule for night meetings, which are held a few times per year in different locations around the county so more people can attend and speak to the body.

Newly elected Commissioner Sharon Tyler said the board should have a strategy for where it holds those night meetings.

Due to the cost to the county and for overtime pay, it should be on a county site so we can access internet,” Tyler said. “Also, sometimes we’re putting out other municipalities, then it becomes a cost to them, and I don’t feel that we should be rendering additional cost to other individuals.”

Commissioners opted to set four night meetings for 2025, although the dates and times will be determined later.

Also at Thursday’s organizational meeting, Tyler was named to the Administration Committee, while Julie Wuerfel was moved from that committee to the Personnel Committee. Otherwise, the committee assignments remain the same with Bob Harrison chairing Personnel, Jim Curran chairing Administration, and Mamie Yarbrough chairing Finance.

Commissioner Jim Curran will remain the sergeant at arms, Commissioner Teri Freehling will remain the parliamentarian, and Commissioner Mamie Yarbrough will remain the chaplain.
