AAA is doing its part to help keep drunk drivers off the road this New Year’s Eve.
The auto club says it activated its Tow to Go program for Christmas, and it will stay open through 6 a.m. on Thursday, January 2. AAA spokesperson Adrienne Woodland tells us Tow to Go is a way for someone who’s had too much to drink to get a ride and a tow home.
“The way the program works, the would-be impaired driver calls AAA,” Woodland said. “We dispatch a tow truck driver who then transports the would-be impaired driver and their vehicle to a safe location within a 10 mile radius.”
Woodland says Tow To Go is free and open to everyone, not just AAA members. However, it’s to be viewed as a last resort. She strongly urges anyone who might be drinking when they go out to make a plan for a ride home.
Woodland says since Tow To Go was started, it’s prevented more than more than 25,000 drunk drivers from getting on the road
