A Bangor man is facing several charges after police say he kidnapped a woman and assaulted them.
The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department says deputies were called to a home in the 38,000 block of 62nd Street in Bangor Township around 11 p.m. Friday on a report of a personal protection order violation. The caller said the suspect arrived at the home and the caller was afraid he was going to assault the protected party. All occupants of the home apart from the suspect and victim were safe and awaiting police.
The sheriff’s department says when deputies arrived, the 33-year-old suspect was found barricaded in a back bedroom with the protected party, a 33-year-old woman. The deputies attempted to get the suspect to exit the bedroom, but he refused to comply.
At one point, the suspect allegedly came out armed with a baseball bat and made threats to kill the deputies. Police say he also threw the bat and a knife at them at various points during the standoff.
After lengthy negotiations, the suspect finally exited the bedroom and was taken into custody. He’s now lodged to the Van Buren County Jail.
No one was injured.
