The Michigan Department of Transportation is reflecting on a busy construction year in 2024.
The agency has released a 2024 Year in Review video, highlighting some of the biggest projects it completed in the last 12 months. There’s plenty.
“In 2024, the Michigan Department of Transportation saw an investment of more than $3 billion in the state’s infrastructure to improve safety, accessibility, and travel throughout the state,” The video said. “This included new technology, more flex route miles, and even studies into how we fund infrastructure in our state.”
Among major projects was the replacement of a bridge in Edenville that washed away in 2020. The M-30 bridge over the Tobacco River is now whole again, at a cost of $12.4 million.
In Lansing, US-127 has been receiving major work with a $205 million rebuild of nearly four miles of highway. Lansing Mayor Andy Schor says the project is welcome.
“Infrastructure improvement is hugely important,” Schor said. “We’ve been pushing for infrastructure improvement for years. So seeing the state being able to fix some of our major roads, especially 127, it’s hugely important.”
The first phase of that project is now complete.
MDOT says other major projects statewide included a rebuild of US-31 in Traverse City and the near-completion of a new $269 million flex route on I-94 in Novi, a heavily congested area.
MDOT says in addition to all of the road work, it’s built trails, awarded grants for airport improvements, and supported Safe Streets programs.
