The Buchanan City Commission has approved a contract with new City Manager Tony McGhee.
The commission held a brief special meeting last week to consider the employment agreement after selecting McGhee for the job in November. The only point of discussion at last week’s meeting was language in the contract that referred to the city commission’s supervisory role over the manager. Commissioner Dan Vigansky said that could lead to micromanagement. He wanted to remove the language.
“We have nothing to do with his supervisory tasks and I just I want to abolish the question of oversight and micromanagement by the city commission and I don’t think it’s a big deal to just strike it,” Vigansky said.
Commissioners agreed that would be a special circumstance and that the language related to supervising the manager’s handling of day to day activities could be removed from the contract.
McGhee was the vice president of development services at Abonmarche before being selected for the city manager role.
City commissioners at the same meeting last week also approved a transition agreement with Interim City Manager Tim Lynch. With it, he agrees to stay on through late February to help McGhee settle into the office.
