Berrien Springs Public Schools has signed on to a class action lawsuit against several social media companies over the effects their services have been having on students nationwide.
The Berrien Springs Public Schools Board of Education last week voted to amend the district’s budget to join the suit. The resolution authorizes the superintendent to sign an attorney-client fee contract with Frantz Law Group to join the lawsuit and to take “all necessary actions to secure monetary damages and injunctive relief for the district.”
The national class action suit alleges that social media services like Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram are addictive and damaging to the mental health of students.
There has been no word on how much in damages Berrien Springs could collect if the suit is successful.
