Buchanan, New Buffalo Township among state parks grant recipients

Grant recommendations being made by the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Board to close out 2024 cover several projects in Southwest Michigan.

In addition to funding a beach improvement project in Lincoln Township with a $350,000 grant, the state has greenlighted $231,000 for boat launch improvements along the St. Joseph River in Buchanan. A second boat launch grant, of $90,000, was also included for Boyle Lake near Buchanan.

New Buffalo Township has been awarded another $300,000 for continued development of the Marquette Greenway. The funds will be used for Phase Two of the project, which will result in a trail running from Grand Beach to the Indiana state line.

Also, the city of Dowagiac has been awarded $300,000 for park renovations along South Front Street, and the village of Decatur has been awarded $307,000 for improvements at Red Woolfe Park.

In all, the state has announced $53.4 million in Natural Resources Trust Fund Grants for 122 projects.
