A group of sexual assault survivors and their loved ones are calling on state lawmakers to pass a package of bills that would strengthen protections and legal recourse for victims.
Grace French is one of the survivors of former Michigan State University physician Larry Nassar. She addressed Michigan lawmakers.
“The first report of abuse to an institution was when I was two years old, which was ten years before I even saw Larry,” French said. “So, to think that I could have been saved if institutions had literally just listened to the people that were telling them is heartbreaking to me. Following that, there were multiple times where his abuse was reported, including to the FBI and the USA Gymnastics.”
Among the things the group is hoping to get passed are extending the statute of limitations from seven to ten years and creating a one-year window for all previous claims to be filed regardless of timing.
